Why flushable wipes are not really flushable
The word flushable means only that the wipe will go down when you flush. It does not mean the wipe breaks down the way toilet paper does. Plumbing experts are blunt about this: marbles are also flushable, but you would not flush those either.
Unlike toilet paper, these wipes do not disintegrate quickly. They snag on small imperfections in pipes, collect grease and other debris, and build into blockages that can affect your home and the wider sewer system.
The damage they cause

- On a septic system, the risk is even higher. Wipes do not break down and can clog the system.

- Cooking fat, oil and grease.
