Plumbers On Duty ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA). This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights as a data subject.
1. Responsible Party
The responsible party for the processing of personal information through plumberonduty.co.za is Plumbers On Duty.

2. Information we collect
- Account details (plumbers): name, business name, email address, phone number, physical address, professional credentials (e.g. PIRB number), service areas, photos and any other information you submit when registering or claiming a listing.
- Reviews: reviewer name, email address (kept private), rating and review text submitted via our review forms.
- Usage information: pages visited, clicks on call / WhatsApp / website buttons, approximate location (only if you tap "Find a plumber near me"), device and browser type, and IP address (hashed).
- Cookies and similar technologies: see our Cookie Policy. Analytics cookies are only set if you click "Accept" on our cookie banner.
3. How we use your information
- To operate the directory, display plumber listings and respond to enquiries.
- To verify plumbers and moderate reviews.
- To send transactional emails (account, claim, review notifications).
- To measure how visitors use the site, fix bugs and improve features.
- To prevent fraud, abuse and to comply with our legal obligations.
4. Legal basis for processing
We process personal information on one or more of the following grounds permitted by POPIA: your consent, performance of a contract with you, compliance with a legal obligation, or our legitimate interest in operating a safe and useful directory (balanced against your rights).
5. Sharing of information
Plumber listing information (business name, contact details, services, area, reviews and photos) is publicly displayed — that is the purpose of the directory. Reviewer email addresses are never shown publicly. We share personal information with third-party processors only to deliver the service, including:
- Hosting and database (Supabase / Lovable Cloud)
- Email delivery (Resend / Mailgun)
- Analytics (Google Analytics 4 — only if you consent to cookies)
- Mapping (Google Maps Platform)
We do not sell your personal information.
6. Cross-border transfers
Some of our processors store data outside South Africa (e.g. in the EU or US). We only use providers that offer protection substantially similar to POPIA, either through their own privacy frameworks or contractual safeguards.
7. Retention
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes set out above, or as required by law. Account data is kept until you delete your account. Analytics events are retained for up to 26 months. Email logs are retained for up to 12 months.
8. Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to:
- Be notified that we hold your personal information.
- Request access to your personal information.
- Request correction or deletion of inaccurate or out-of-date information.
- Object to the processing of your personal information.
- Withdraw your consent to processing where consent was the legal basis.
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.

9. Security
We use industry-standard measures (TLS encryption, row-level access controls, hashed passwords) to safeguard personal information against loss, unauthorised access and disclosure. No system is perfectly secure; we will notify affected users and the Information Regulator if a security breach is reasonably likely to cause harm.
10. Children
Our service is not directed at persons under the age of 18 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated on the site.
