Do You Need a Pressure-Reducing Valve in South Africa?
SANS 10254 caps home water pressure at 400 kPa, but many SA suburbs push 600 to 900 kPa at night when demand drops. That's the pressure quietly destroying your mixers, dishwasher inlets and geyser safety valves.
Signs your pressure is too high

What a PRV does
A pressure-reducing valve sits on the incoming municipal line and clamps pressure to a set value, usually 300 to 400 kPa. Below the geyser, a separate pressure control valve (PCV) already limits pressure to what the tank can handle, but that doesn't protect the rest of the house.
